Services Offered
The JCUS Psychology Clinic offers specialised and professional services for individuals who need assessment and psychotherapy/counselling for a wide range of socio-emotional, behavioural and learning concerns.
Assessment
We seek to make the assessment experience as positive and informative for our clients as possible. A comprehensive assessment process generally takes at least 3 to 4 sessions – from the initial interview, to discussion of results and recommendations. Each session may last between 1 and 3 hours.
We use a broad range of techniques to fully understand a client’s concerns and needs – interviews (with the client and other important people in his/her life), testing with well-researched psychological instruments, questionnaires, observations, and discussions with other professionals (eg. occupational therapists, doctors) where necessary. Reports of assessment results and recommendations are customised to a client’s life situation, and look at strengths and weaknesses, and needs.
Assessment services are available for the following concerns:
- Intellectual functioning
- Educational achievement
- Socio-emotional development
- Learning difficulties
- Autistic spectrum disorders (autism/aspergers)
- Attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- Personality
- Mental health issues (eg. stress, anxiety, depression) etc
Psychotherapy & Counselling
Our psychologists seek to develop a rewarding and professional relationship with our clients, within which our clients can explore their concerns and develop strategies to manage and recover from their emotional and behavioural difficulties.
The number and frequency of psychotherapy/counselling sessions vary according to the clients needs. Each session will generally last 1 hour. We will recommend treatment approaches to clients based on assessment and understanding of the clients problems, as well as the current research evidence and best practices available. Our psychologists will discuss with their clients how best to work together, and also review and discuss progress periodically. We encourage active client participation in the psychotherapy and counselling process, as participation is critical to successful progress.
Short-term intervention services are available for children and adults with the following concerns:
- Behaviour and socio-emotional problems
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Phobias
- Anger management
- Obsessions and compulsions
- Relationship and/or family issues
- Divorce
