JCU Faculties
The
Faculty of Medicine, Health & Molecular Sciences
The Faculty offers an impressive range of undergraduate
and postgraduate degrees for medical and health
professionals,
and veterinary and biomedical sciences. All degrees
include special training in the area of rural/remote
Indigenous and
tropical health.
The
new regional tertiary teaching hospital has been
located adjacent to the University’s health science
precinct, further enhancing its strong clinical
orientation. Health professional degrees are available
in medicine, occupational therapy, pharmacy, sports
and exercise science, nursing physiotherapy, veterinary
science, speech pathology and medical laboratory
science. The JCU School of Medicine opened in 2000,
the first Medical School in Australia to commence
in 25 years. JCU also has a strong biotechnology
biomedical and molecular science program with a
well-established and active research profile.
The
Faculty has an established reputation in research
into rural, remote and Indigenous and tropical health
issues. With the further development of the School
of Medicine, research activities in emerging areas
such as comparative genomics have been strengthened
with the construction of major new research infrastructure.
Postgraduate research and coursework programs are
available in medicine, public health and tropical
medicine, biomedical and molecular sciences, tropical
veterinary and animal science, pharmacy, nursing,
midwifery, intensive care, aged care, perioperative
care, neonatal, intensive care, forensic mental
health, assistive technology and occupational therapy.
