JCU’s situation is unique – both the Cairns and Townsville campuses are close to the Great Barrier Reef, rainforests, wetlands and savannas allowing the Faculty’s degrees and research areas to make extensive use of the geography and industries of northern Queensland.

We offer access to well-equipped, modern laboratories, and the University operates a research vessel, field stations on a Great Barrier Reef island and in the rainforest, sophisticated acquaria and analytical and testing equipment. We are a member of several Cooperative Research Centres and have strong links with other research organizations and industry.
