Biography

Nicola is a British Psychological Society (BPS) Chartered Psychologist (Teachers and Research) and is from the UK. Nicola has lectured in psychology at the University of Leeds, Leeds Trinity and All Saints and Leeds Metropolitan University before joining JCU Singapore in October 2011.

Nicola completed her first degree in Psychology at the University of Liverpool before going on to complete her PhD in biological psychology at the University of Leeds. Her thesis explored stress responsivity in relation to cognitive and metabolic parameters in centrally obese individuals. She continues to research in this area both independently and in collaboration with the Human Appetite Research Group at the University of Leeds where she holds a visiting research fellowship.

Research Interest

Nicola is interested in the biopsychology of the human stress response and its associations with health, wellbeing and cognition. She is also interested in the subjective perception of stress and associated beliefs, behaviours and coping.

Nicola continues to be involved in collaborative research with the Institute of Psychological Sciences at the University of Leeds exploring the effects of nutrition and glycaemic profiles on cognition, satiety and wellbeing.
