Competitiveness, bullying, social exclusion, family crisis, scholastic under-achievement, abuse, peer pressure, substance mis-use and racism are some of the problems which can be assisted with the support of counselling. All students can access the services of a school counsellor/ or a student support executive for issues pertaining to academic performance; anxiety and any other issues which may hinder them from making a smooth transition from school to a work environment.

Student Source

Student can be referred from exams; academic; marketing department; peer or by self.
Student will be introduced to Pastoral Counselling during orientation.
Student will be aware of services through the student handbook and website.

Accountability and Management

The Counsellor and Student Support Executives are responsible for the James Cook University Singapore’s Student Pastoral Counselling Framework throughout the organization. Pastoral counselling services may include:

  • providing emotional support for students to help them cope with mental stress relating to a new environment or course demands;
  • implementing programs to create a culture and climate of care, trust and friendliness that encourage student attendance and involvement.

Confidentiality

The Counsellor shall implement safeguards to assure that personal information about individual students is shared among staff only to the extent necessary to ensure the safety and effective provision of services to students, and no further. Personal counselling records shall be treated as confidential documents.
