Biography
Jasper completed his undergraduate studies in English Language and English Teaching at The University of Birmingham, studying under some of the early pioneers of corpus linguistics. Jasper then moved into EAP teaching, and subsequently management and academic leadership. Jasper has nearly a decade of experience leading English and Pre-University programmes in international higher education institutions in Southeast Asia, as well as experience as a Vietnamese Ministry of Education teacher trainer and IELTS Speaking Examiner. Jasper is completing his doctoral studies using applied corpus linguistics methods to research media discourse.
Research Interests
Jasper’s research interests are in academic integrity, applied linguistics, English for Academic Purposes, discourse analysis, sociology and the relationship between language and society. Jasper is an active researcher with a range of ongoing projects, mainly focusing on the use of corpus linguistics and qualitative discourse analysis. He has published articles in leading journals in Academic Integrity, Academic Ethics, and EAP. As a corpus linguist, he is most interested in the lexical approach to language learning.
