Course overview

James Cook University’s postgraduate program in Clinical Psychology is designed to equip graduates with advanced academic and practical training for professional practice.

The postgraduate program prepares graduates for enriching and fulfilling careers in psychology and provides a pathway for registration as a psychologist in Singapore and Australia.

You will benefit from training in state-of-the-art facilities including our on-campus Psychology Clinic. To assist in training in practical skills, the clinic is equipped with a high quality audio and visual recording system.

The professional programs encompasses 3 main components:

  • Academic Coursework
    The coursework modules are usually delivered in an 8 – 10 full day workshop format. Students are actively engaged in presentations, role-plays and group discussions.
  • Supervised Practicum
    There is a total of 1,000 practica hours for the Masters program, which are conducted in our on-campus Psychology Clinic and in external clinical settings.
  • The Research Thesis
    The master’s research thesis involves conducting a project focusing on an area of clinical psychology and writing it up as a conventional research dissertation or combination of a literature review and journal article.

Eligibility & Requirements

Entry Requirements

  • Completion, within the last 10 years, of an AQF Level 8 Bachelor Honours Degree with Class 1 or 2A honours from a course accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council or equivalent qualification from an overseas institution.
  • Other qualifications or practical experience recognised by the University as equivalent.
  • Applicants who are short-listed for interview must demonstrate their interpersonal skills and personal suitability during the interview.

Application forms must be submitted together with certified true copies of academic transcripts, two referees' reports and a résumé

Minimum English Language Proficiency Requirements

  • Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of IELTS 7 (no component lower than 7.0), TOEFL (Internet Based) 94 (23 in Speaking, 24 in Listening and Reading, and 27 in Writing), Pearson PTE Academic 65 (no component less than 65); or
  • Successful completion of other qualifications completed in English Language deemed comparable to Australian standards on a case-by-case basis in accordance to JCU admissions guidelines

Attendance Requirements

As this is a professional training programme, students are required to attend all classes.

Tuition Fees

S$70,986.25 (Domestic*)

James Cook University is EduTrust Certified. The EduTrust certification scheme is administered by the Committee for Private Education (CPE), a part of SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG). EduTrust requires all students to be covered under a Fee Protection Scheme. In James Cook University, this is provided through an insurance protection scheme. Further, EduTrust also requires that the students must be covered under a medical insurance coverage which has provision for hospitalisation, surgery and treatment costs throughout their course duration.
