What are we WASTING for? A Dialogue

Summary

The dialogue between Associate Professor Wang Pengji from James Cook University and Mr Saw Yong Kai, Assistant Manager, Community Relations Department, National Environment Agency will identify various costs related to food waste and some tips and business opportunities will be discussed to help achieve Singapore’s zero waste target. Associate Professor Wang and Mr Saw will also discuss Singapore’s current waste management situation and what various stakeholders can do to minimize waste and increase environmental stewardship.

Associate Professor Wang Pengji

Dr Wang is Associate Professor in business. She has been doing research in the areas of corporate governance, international business and sustainable business practice. Several projects she is working in collaboration with academics in Australia and the U.K., as well as industry partners such as Food Bank Singapore focus on sustainable business practices in food waste management and aim to understand consumers’ food waste behavior by applying psychological and sociological theories.

Mr Saw Yong Kai
Assistant Manager, Community Relations Department
National Environment Agency

Yong Kai has been with NEA for close to three years. During his first two years at NEA, he was in the Waste and Resource Management Department, where he helped oversee the waste management industry. Currently, he is in the Community Relations Department, conducting environmental outreach and handling municipal issues. Yong Kai has a background in Environmental Engineering.
