Winning the War on Diabetes: The Role of Behavioral Medicine

Type 2 diabetes is becoming a global epidemic. Professor Timothy Skinner is going to share the impact of diabetes on people’s quality of life, our practice in health promotion, clinical practice and policy development that needs to focus on behavioural science. In this lecture, learn the importance of screening for and actively managing depression, the influence of poor sleep as risk factor for diabetes development and its poor outcomes.

About the Speaker

Professor Timothy Skinner trained as a Health Psychologist in UK, moved to Australia in 2007. Commenced his PhD in 1995, his initial work focused on adolescents and young people with type 1 diabetes, subsequently expanding to include adults with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Most recently Professor Skinner has led the team at EmojiFit  to develop a critically acclaimed app to support people with type 2 diabetes, now being used in 29 countries, with over 300,000 social media followers.  Professor Skinner has published over 170 peer-reviewed papers and is widely recognised as an international leader in the field of psychosocial aspects of diabetes.
