Behavioural Health Insights

BEHAVIOURAL HEALTH INSIGHTS

The Behavioural Insights Unit is led by Dr. Chris Lo and applies behavioural science to improve public health policies and interventions, following global best practices, including guidance from the World Health Organization. It examines how psychological, social, and systemic factors shape health-related behaviours, using this knowledge to inform communication strategies and service delivery. The unit’s work focuses on addressing collective health challenges and enhancing public trust in evidence-based health initiatives.

CURRENT PROJECTS

Health Communication and Social Influence

This project examines how mass and social media shape health behaviours, with a focus on emotional responses to health messaging and digital information flows. It explores how risk perceptions and engagement with health interventions are influenced by media narratives and online discourse.

Key areas of focus:

  • Mapping emotional and cognitive responses to health messaging.
  • Examining social media’s role in shaping health beliefs and behaviours.
  • Developing strategies for effective and ethical digital health communication.

Health Systems and Service Optimisation

This research explores how behavioural insights can enhance healthcare systems, particularly in supportive and end-of-life care. It examines digital interventions, ethical considerations in novel treatments, and structural barriers to equitable care delivery.

Key areas of focus:

  • Designing and evaluating digital tools for supportive care.
  • Assessing ethical and policy challenges in emerging therapies.
  • Addressing systemic barriers to palliative care access.

Social Determinants of Health and Collective Action

This project investigates how social factors—such as social connection, economic stability, and global health challenges—affect health outcomes. It explores predictors of resilience and ethical considerations in addressing collective health issues.

Key areas of focus:

  • Identifying predictors of social adaptation and resilience.
  • Examining the intersection of health, ethics, and global social challenges.
  • Exploring systemic approaches to reducing health inequities.
