Tourism

Tourism Research within the Tropical Futures Institute addresses both current and future tourism research areas in the tropics in order to have impact on planning and decision making among the various tourism sectors. The focus is on niche markets in tourism to identify the priorities and possibilities of developing new markets to benefit both local communities and the tourism industry. Our research agenda consists of identifying knowledge-based gaps, investigating priorities of tourism research themes based on the need of all stakeholders in the tourism industry, facilitating collaboration in research, and introducing and developing new tourism markets.

Researchers welcome collaboration with tourism industry organizations and associations, government departments and research institutes on projects on destination development in areas such as Aquaculture tourism, Agritourism, Community-based tourism, Heritage tourism, Quality Tourism, Urban-Rural Tourism, Service excellence in hospitality, Sustainable livelihoods and Tourism dietary preferences.
