Su-Yen Wong, a highly respected Singaporean businesswoman is appointed the Chair of the James Cook University, Singapore Board effective from 1 April 2024

Following a thorough review of the governance and management structures for James Cook University in Singapore, the JCU Council approved changes to the composition of the Board. Specifically, the Vice Chancellor will no longer serve as the Chair of the Board, with the position now being filled by a local Singaporean. The Vice Chancellor will continue to serve as an Executive Director alongside the Deputy Vice Chancellor Singapore.

Furthermore, the Council endorsed the appointment of the Chair of the James Cook University, Singapore Board as an Additional Appointed Member of the JCU Council.

“I am delighted to announce that Su-Yen Wong, a highly respected Singaporean businesswoman, has accepted the role of Chair of the Board of Directors of James Cook University, Singapore effective from 1 April 2024,” said Professor Simon Biggs, Vice Chancellor and President of James Cook University.

Su-Yen's extensive global experience in business leadership, organisation transformation, and change management, coupled with her significant management and governance roles across diverse industries, make her an invaluable addition to our University.

Notably, she has held key positions in prominent organisations such as Yoma Strategic Holdings, First Resources, the Infocomm Media Development Authority, and Kemin Industries. From 2020 to 2023, Su-Yen served as the first female Chair of the Singapore Institute of Directors. She is also an Adjunct Associate Professor of Leadership at the National University of Singapore Business School.

“Given Su-Yen's wealth of experience in executive leadership and governance, I am confident that her expertise will greatly benefit the University as a whole,” said Professor Biggs.
