Strengthening our ties with Cambodia

James Cook University welcomed His Excellency Sok Khoeun, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Cambodia, to the Singapore campus, and forged a partnership with BELTEI International University.

His Excellency Mr Sok Khoeun — Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Royal Embassy of Cambodia — visited the Singapore campus of James Cook University (JCU) with his delegates on 11 January 2022 to learn more about the University and discuss collaboration opportunities with public and private universities in Cambodia.

In a campus tour, Ambassador Sok Khoeun had the opportunity to discover the various facilities at the Singapore campus of JCU, including the Aquaculture Research and Teaching Facility and the Games Museum. He also had the opportunity to meet with Cambodian students from JCU, who extended a warm welcome and shared their experiences studying in JCU in Singapore.

During his visit, Ambassador Sok Khoeun was also witness to the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between JCU in Singapore and BELTEI International University. The MOU aims to promote collaboration between the two universities in areas such as joint research activities, study tours, as well as cooperation in study abroad arrangements involving students from BELTEI International University studying at JCU in Singapore.

His Excellency Mr Ly Navuth, President of BELTEI International University, said, “Through this MOU, I strongly believe that our university will enhance the quality of the education sector through greater international collaboration and academic activities such as student exchange programmes, multi-cultural programmes, internships and job opportunities. I would like to express my sincerest thanks to His Excellency Sok Khoeun and Professor Chris Rudd OBE for initiating this MOU and enabling our shared success.”

Ambassador Sok Khoeun added, “During the COVID-19 pandemic, education will play a central role in socioeconomic recovery and building resilience. Seeing our universities broaden collaboration with internationally-recognised universities, like James Cook University, supports and promotes the importance of education. I hope that, with this MOU, we can continue to boost collaboration opportunities and also provide more opportunities for Cambodian students to gain a better education.”
