In celebration of Singapore's 61^st National Day, the Singapore campus of James Cook University (JCU in Singapore) has officially set a new Singapore Book of Records title for the Largest Panel Display of Postcards, bringing together more than 500 handwritten messages from students, staff and members of the wider community. The panel measured 3.9m by 1.9m.

Collected over several weeks and unveiled during the university's National Day celebration, the postcards capture participants' hopes, gratitude and aspirations for Singapore. More than a record-setting achievement, the initiative reflects the belief that every individual's story and perspective contributes to the nation's shared identity and future.

A Celebration of Community Across Generations

The celebration welcomed residents from Kolam Ayer, who joined the JCU community in writing unity postcards and participating in a collaborative community art activity. Beyond the record-setting achievement, the initiative provided an opportunity for members of the JCU community and Kolam Ayer residents to connect through shared experiences, conversations and creative activities. By bringing together people from different generations and backgrounds, the university hopes to foster stronger community ties while celebrating the values that unite Singaporeans. The event also featured a cultural dance performance celebrating Singapore's rich multicultural heritage.

The Singapore Book of Records officially verified and presented the new record during the celebration, witnessed by Dr Wan Rizal, Member of Parliament for Jalan Besar GRC (Kolam Ayer) and Chairman of Jalan Besar Town Council, together with students, staff and community members.

"National Day is an opportunity to reflect on the values that have shaped Singapore's journey and continue to bring people together. JCU in Singapore is proud to celebrate alongside our students, staff and community partners, recognising that every individual story and experience contributes to Singapore's shared identity,” shared Professor Carole-Anne Upton, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Singapore, James Cook University.

"Through initiatives such as this, we hope to build bonds, encourage reflection, and celebrate the diversity that makes Singapore such a vibrant place to live, learn and grow. It is also part of our commitment to creating a brighter future through education, collaboration and meaningful engagement with the communities we serve," she added.
