James Cook University in Singapore launches Ethics, Organisations and Society Research Cluster

James Cook University in Singapore is bolstering research on the ethical role of businesses in society, and more, with the launch of the Ethics, Organisations and Society Research Cluster.

The Ethics, Organisations and Society (EOS) Research Cluster has been officially launched by James Cook University (JCU) in Singapore. Led by its Director, Professor Emmanuel Adegbite, the EOS Research Cluster builds on the wide range of research undertaken by faculty and doctoral students, which are designed to improve the ethical role of businesses in society, in order to further global socio-economic health and vitality.

The EOS Research Cluster seeks to take on an interdisciplinary approach — encompassing accounting, finance, accountability, business ethics, corporate governance, corporate social responsibility, sustainability, corporate environmental reporting, philosophy and theology — to tackle the societal issues that result from neglected ethics in modern capitalism.

Faculty members under the EOS Research Cluster have produced high-quality research relating to the core mission of EOS, including examining the motivations behind household food waste, studying the effectiveness of Africapitalism, and more.

In 2022, the EOS Research Cluster has kickstarted its webinar series, with the aim of holding six seminars in a year. The series invites a vibrant array of external and internal speakers to present their works in progress. The first webinar, which explores the subject “How do socially responsible firms respond to financial shocks?” was presented by Dr Anywhere (Siko) Sikochi of Harvard Business School, Harvard University. More information about the cluster’s forthcoming seminars may be found on the EOS Research Cluster’s Seminars and Events page.

Professor Adegbite said, “The EOS webinar and seminar series has kicked off to a flying start and to better foster and disseminate the important research that it undertakes, we welcome partnership suggestions, research ideas, and research funding inquiries.”
