1. What are you up to right now?

Currently, I work as a Social Media Manager in one of the leading multinational companies in the tobacco industry in Kazakhstan, where I’ve had the opportunity to lead a variety of exciting projects and initiatives. The role has been both rewarding and challenging, offering continuous opportunities for growth and development. Prior to this, I managed social media accounts for various businesses, successfully overseeing multiple projects at once. My responsibilities included crafting content strategies, designing visuals, and producing engaging posts. I’ve always had a strong passion for the creative aspects of my work, and I’m grateful to apply the skills I gained at university in such dynamic and impactful settings.

2. Can you tell us more about your current role and why you decided to take on this role?

My current role as Social Media Manager allows me to apply my skills in digital marketing and content creation. I chose this position because it offers opportunities for growth while letting me contribute to shaping the company's image. I’m excited about the chance to work with such an international and forward-thinking company and help create meaningful connections with our audience. This role aligns perfectly with my passion for creativity and strategic thinking.

3. If you could highlight one memorable experience in your career journey/experience so far, what would that be?

One memorable experience in my journey was working with successful entrepreneurs to promote their businesses. I had the opportunity to collaborate closely with them, which not only helped me develop effective strategies for growth but also taught me invaluable lessons in business management and creativity. Their insights and experience were a huge influence on me, and I learned a lot about resilience, vision and the importance of innovation in driving success.

4. What are some of the lessons learned or challenges faced?

One of the biggest challenges I faced was adapting to completely different industries while managing multiple projects at once. Each business had its own unique needs and goals, so I had to quickly learn how to tailor my strategies for each one. Juggling several projects simultaneously also taught me how to prioritise effectively and manage my time better. This experience helped me become more versatile and strengthened my ability to stay organised and focused under pressure.

5. How do you feel studying at the Singapore campus of James Cook University has helped you in your career?

Studying at the Singapore campus of James Cook University not only provided me with important knowledge in my field but also helped me strengthen my communication skills. Interacting with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures was an invaluable experience. It taught me how to adapt my approach to different perspectives and work collaboratively with people from all over the world. These skills have been crucial in my career, especially in managing cross-cultural teams and building strong professional relationships.

6. What would be your advice for current students?

My advice for current students would be to engage more with people, learn from their experiences, and explore different cultures. Building connections and broadening your horizons can teach you so much about the world and yourself. Don’t just focus on your studies – take the time to learn from others and gain new perspectives. This will not only enrich your personal life but also help you grow professionally, making you more adaptable and open-minded in the future.

7. Lastly, JCU's strategic intent is ‘Creating a brighter future for life in the Tropics and beyond, through education and research that makes a difference locally, and globally’. How do you think you have made (or are making) a difference?

I believe I am contributing to creating a brighter future by using the knowledge and skills I gained at JCU to make a positive impact in my field. By working with diverse businesses and helping them grow through innovative marketing strategies, I am making a difference both locally and globally. My approach focuses on creativity, adaptability, and collaboration – values I learned during my time at JCU.
