The Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) Awards for Excellence in Early Childhood Development Awards recognises exemplary Early Childhood and Early Intervention educators, leaders, as well as centres that have excelled in teaching and learning and in their innovative practices.
Ms Chong Ling Xuan, who graduated from James Cook University’s Bachelor of Psychology programme in 2009, recently received the Promising Award in the ECDA Awards for Excellence in Early Childhood Development (Early Intervention Professional category).
Recipients of this award are recognised for their excellence in designing and implementing effective early intervention and learning support programmes. They embody professional excellence in their practices, continually strive for growth, and are deeply committed to making a positive difference in the lives of children with developmental needs and their families.
“I am humbled to be able to receive the award, and to be recognised and supported by my mentors, colleagues, friends, family and various stakeholders such as Allied Health Professionals, parents and teachers,” says Ling Xuan.
“I look forward to be able to share my experience and knowledge, and to support more children who will benefit from early intervention,” she adds.
Ling Xuan’s journey in early intervention began during her time as a preschool teacher, where she witnessed the profound impact that Allied Health Professionals and Learning Support Educators had on the children under her care. This experience motivated her to pursue a career in early intervention.
Today, Ling Xuan has been a Senior Learning Support Educator at PAP Community Foundation for about four years, where she supports children in Kindergarten 1 and Kindergarten 2 in Early Intervention through conducting screening and assessment, providing targeted support in areas such as language, literacy, social skills and behaviour, and fine motor skills. She also works with stakeholders to better support children in their natural learning environment.
"I love witnessing the children’s progress during intervention sessions and in their classroom settings. Hearing feedback from parents and educators about the children’s enjoyment and anticipation for the sessions empowered me and warmed my heart, encouraging me to continue this meaningful work," says Ling Xuan.
Associate Professor Teoh Ai Ni, Academic Head, Social and Health Sciences at JCU Singapore, reflects on Ling Xuan’s journey and achievements.
“I have known Ling Xuan since 2006 when she took my Introductory Psychology subject. I am immensely proud to see her grow and shine over the years, she says.
“Ling Xuan’s dedication to supporting children and families is inspiring, and this award is a well-deserved recognition of her efforts. We can’t wait to see what’s next for her!” adds Associate Professor Teoh.
