About AccessAbility Services

We are committed to fostering an inclusive and accessible higher education environment where all students have the opportunity to succeed.

AccessAbility Advisors in the AccessAbility Services Office are experienced professionals with background in Occupational Therapy towards Rehabilitation, Psychological and Education. They work collaboratively with students, academic and professional staff, and external service providers to ensure appropriate and effective support.

Our Approach

AccessAbility Advisors take a personalised, student‑centred approach by:

  • Reviewing current and relevant medical or supporting documentation
  • Assessing requests for reasonable adjustments

Where appropriate, an Access Plan is developed. This plan outlines tailored recommendations and approved adjustments aligned to individual needs and course requirements.

Types of Support Available

Examination Adjustments

Depending on individual needs, adjustments may include:

  • Additional working time
  • Rest breaks during examinations
  • Alternative exam paper formats
  • Smaller or separate examination venues

Assignment Support

  • Extensions for assignment submissions (via approved processes)

Eligibility and Documentation Requirements

To apply, students must provide:

  • Updated, well‑documented supporting reports or letters from a qualified external healthcare practitioner
  • Documentation that clearly outlines the functional impact on studies

All documentation must be current, relevant, and sufficiently detailed to allow an informed assessment.

Important Timelines

  • Applications for exam adjustments must be submitted at least 10 university working days before the start of the examination period
  • Requests for assignment extensions must be submitted by students through the Special Consideration Portal before the assignment due date and seek outcome from academic departments/ lecturers/subject coordinators

Step 2: Submit Forms with Course Application

Submit completed forms and supporting documentation to the Admissions Team together with your course application to:

admissions-singapore@jcu.edu.au

Step 3: Outcome and Access Plan

  • The application outcome will be communicated via the Recruitment Team
  • If approved:
    • Reasonable adjustments will be included in your Letter of Offer
    • A formal Access Plan will be sent to your student email upon enrolment

Step 3: Assessment and Outcome

  • An AccessAbility Advisor may contact you via your JCU email to arrange a discussion (online or on campus)
  • You will receive an email notification of the outcome

If approved, an Access Plan outlining your reasonable adjustments will be issued
