Overview

  • Platform for students to be connected to industry of interest and discover career preferences, personality profiles and goals
  • Develop students holistically through a support network of esteemed alumni and industry partners
  • Contact time in the region of 10 hours spread over 4 months (email, phone, social media platforms, physical meet-ups)
  • Manual matching of mentors and mentees will be conducted by Student Careers team with closest education/industry fit
  • Mentors and Mentees to sign an agreement upon pairing
  • Mentors and Mentees to complete an evaluation at the end of programme

Be a Mentee

The Mentorship Programme provides JCUS Undergraduates and Postgraduates (Student Mentee) a platform to be connected to industry of interest, seek advice from Alumni and Industry Mentors about the working world and hear real-life experiences from someone who has overcome challenges in their workplace.

Note: This programme is not designed to help you land a job after graduation.

Applicants must be:
  • Current JCU student with an active status (i.e. students who are not undergoing deferment or Leave of Absence)
  • Must be able to commit to 4 months of mentorship programme
  • Each student is limited to participating only once
  • Programme to commence in between the trimester of your studies
  • Recommended frequency of communication will be at least once a month for 4 months (email, phone, social media platforms, physical meet-ups)
  • No cost for Mentees to sign up for this programme
  • Applicable to both local and international students

Requirements:
  • At least 5 years working experience
  • Contact time in the region of 10 hours spread over 4 months (email, phone, social media platforms, physical meet-ups)
  • Able to commit to 4 months of mentorship
  • Have a passion for supporting and contribute to the younger members of society

Mentorship Programme FAQs

Q: How do I register on the platform?
A: Simply sign up and register as a Mentor/Mentee. A Student Careers Officer will follow up with you.

Q: How do I match with a Mentor?
A: Mentors will be paired with Mentees with closest education/industry fit to their declared career interests. The matching service will be done by the Student Careers Officers.

Q: How long will the commitment be?
A: 4 months of structured Mentorship Programme. We strongly encourage Student Mentees to have frequent contact of 10 hours across 4 months with your Mentors.

Q: What am I expected to do?
A: Mentors are expected to offer professional advice, share industry experience, and provide guidance in the capacity of an independent advisor to the Student Mentee on his/her career choice. Student Mentees are expected to establish expectations and objectives with the Mentor, and adopt a positive and open-minded attitude at all times towards learning from the Mentor. A briefing will be conducted for Student Mentees.

Q: Are there any potential risks to me or my company?
A: No. However, do note that it is not appropriate for Mentors and Mentees to engage in any form of business transactions. The relationship should be strictly professional.

Q: If I sign up, will it be guaranteed that I will be matched with a Mentor?
A: We strive to match you to a Mentor with closest education/industry fit to your declared career interests. Do note that there is limited slots for the Mentorship Programme in each trimester.

Q: What if my Mentor/Mentee does not respond to me or rise of potential issue?
A: We advise you to contact the Student Careers Office and we will provide full support to resolve the situation.
