Internship

Internships are work integrated learning subjects that offer you meaningful and practical workplace experiences related to your field of study. It allows you to apply the knowledge you have gained through your study program, learn new skills, and provides opportunities for your career exploration and development, while at the same time gaining academic credit towards the fulfilment of your course requirements.

General

An internship subject is a credit-bearing subject and forms part of your programme of study. To successfully complete an internship subject, you are required to meet both academic and employment-related requirements. Typically, you will be expected to:

  • complete a minimum number of working hours
  • achieve a satisfactory appraisal from your employer
  • achieve a passing grade or higher on various academic assessments (e.g. plans, reflections, reports)

Different Schools and courses have different internship subjects. Read through your course handbook to find out which internship subject or subjects are relevant to you.

You should then read the relevant subject outline carefully to understand the subject requirements and workload expectations:

  • LB5235 Applied Research Project
  • BU3102 / CP3102 Multidisciplinary Project

  • Internship subjects are offered every trimester
  • Internship durations are generally between 3 and 6 months, with the exact duration to be agreed between you and your employer
  • Academic internship subjects start in Trimester Week 1 and end in Week 10, meaning that all academic requirements must be completed by the end of Week 10, even if your internship continues beyond that
  • Typically, you are required to complete a mandatory orientation before commencing your internship and this will be organized by your subject lecturer

For All

  • Internships can be completed on either a full-time or part-time basis
  • All students will be enrolled into the applied project subject as the default, and only upon successful placement will your enrolment be changed to the internship subject
  • For International students

  • Internships are typically completed as a stand-alone subject in the final trimester of study and involves an extension to the duration of the degree programme
    • Student’s Pass / Long-Term Visit Pass / Dependant’s Pass holders will require a work pass in order to complete your internship in Singapore
    • You must complete your work pass formalities in order to enrol in the internship subject
    • Work passes are issued by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) in Singapore, and vary in relation of their terms and requirements:
    • Your employer is responsible for your work pass application and sponsorship
